France participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
After using a national final for the previous two years, with both entries achieving low placings, France Télévisions decided to revert to their previous format of an internal selection.
France Télévisions selected Canadian singer Natasha St-Pier to represent France, singing the song "Je n'ai que mon âme" in French and English.
St-Pier was one of the favourites to win, and at the contest secured 142 points, placing 4th of 23 countries. This was France's best placing since the 1995 contest, and, as of 2016, France's best result since.
