Forte da Preguiça is also another fort located in the island of São Jorge in the Azores Islands

Forte do Príncipe Real (Portuguese meaning the Royal Prince's Fort), better known as Forte da Preguiça or Forte de São Jorge is an abandoned fort located in the village of Preguiça in the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde.

The earlier fort was known as São Nicolau which is also the island name, it was first built by San Roque Gonzalez de Santa Cruz during the Habsburg rule in 1619.

The fort was built in 1818 after the Napoleonic Wars on top of the hill protecting the port of Baía de São Jorge (St. George's Bay), only for giving the communication to the neighboring islands and where the Royal Warehouse once stood.

It lost its military function and became abandoned, some of its stones were used for building homes up to restoration.

The fort today are in ruins, it features several disused old pieces of artillery.

In the small plain, features a commemorative plaque of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the navigator Pedro Álvares Cabral, in the second pattern, today, a work by the Cape Verdean architect Pedro Gregório Lopes erected another commemoration plaque of the 500th anniversary of the passage of the navigation ship that visited São Nicolau Island and headed to the route where Brazil would be discovered.

Its forts spaces and features were partly archaeologically done by the university of Cambridge.

On September 15, 2005, the fortress underwent restoration works and was finished some years later.
