Flying Emus were an Australian country/bluegrass band. They won the 1988 ARIA Music Award for Best Country Album for their album This Town. They won CMAA Country Music Awards in 1986 (Instrumental of the Year and Vocal Group or Duo of the Year), 1987 (Instrumental of the Year and Vocal Group or Duo of the Year), 1988 (Instrumental of the Year) and 1991 (Instrumental of the Year). Members include Mike Kerin, Ian Simpson, John Kane, Genni Kane, Graham Thompson (ex-Stars), Malcolm Wakeford, Hanuman Dass, Michael Vidale and Wayne Goodwin.

The band's song "I Just Want To Dance With You" was made famous by George Strait on his "One Step At A Time" album.

In January 2013, at the CMAA Australian Country Music awards at Tamworth, New South Wales, John Kane announced during the awards ceremony that there was likely to be a new Flying Emus greatest hits album before long. The crowd erupted with applause, as the band's recordings have been out of print for some time and are now difficult to find.

In December 2013, the Flying Emus announced a reunion tour for January 2014 with the 4 original members (John and Genni Kane, Ian Simpson and Mike Kerin) with Michael Vidale. A new greatest hits album 'Flying Emus the Collection' is due for release through Warner Music on 10 January 2014.
