The Fahrettin Altay-Evka 3 Line, unofficially referred to as M1, is a 20.1 km long route of the Izmir Metro. It is the only operating line of the İzmir Metro system, although the construction of two new lines is expected to begin in 2018. The line originally opened on 22 May 2000 and operated between Bornova and Üçyol. Between 2012 and 2014 the line was gradually expanded to its current route. The Fahrettin Altay—Evka 3 Line is the fourth rapid transit line to open in Turkey, after the M1 (1989) in Istanbul and Ankaray (1996) and the M1 (1997) in Ankara.
At Basmane, Hilal and Halkapınar stations, there are connections available to Turkish State Railways.
