Everaldo Dias Pereira (born 22 February 1956 in Rio de Janeiro), as known as Pastor Everaldo, is a Brazilian pastor, businessman and politician filiated to the Social Christian Party (PSC). Is an important name in the Assembly of God and national president of the PSC, which he was candidate for President of Brazil in the 2014 elections. However, placed 5th, with 0.75% of the total votes.
Everaldo is son of pastor Heraldo and missionary Dilma and was born in Acari, poor neighborhood of the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Decided that his name would be the name as his uncle Everaldo: Everaldo Dias Pereira. The family residence was a core of the Assembly of God Madureira Ministery. Grew along his brothers Meirelaine, Ivete, Edivaldo, Edmilson and Marcos. Started working early; at 6, helped his father selling plant pots in fairs. At 10, made friends with marketers and started selling bananas, then mugs and cups. Was also bricklayer and office-boy.
In he was approved in a public tender, at 14 years old, in the Reinsurance Institute of Brazil (IRB). At 17 years, joined the Economy and Finances College of Rio de Janeiro and paid his studies with the salary received for his work in the Institute. Later, created his own company. In 1989, supported Leonel Brizola for President and, since then, is part of the public life.
Married for the second time with the gospel singer Ester Batista, is father of three children. He was married with Maeli de Almeida. Between both weddings, Everaldo was in a relationship with Kátia Miriam Offredi Maia, who accused him of physical aggression, followed by death threats. Kátia Miriam claims she was in a stable union with Everaldo.
Everaldo kept himself in the political backstage until being victorious with the election of Anthony Garotinho (PR, former PDT) and Benedita da Silva (PT), both evangelic, for Governor and Vice-Governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, respectively. They had the support of the former federal deputy bishop Manoel Ferreira (PSC), leader of Everaldo's church. From 1999 to 2003, was Subchief of Staff of the state government, being responsible to help implement the first "Bolsa Família" of Brazil: "Cheque-Cidadão". In 2003, joined the Social Christian Party as vice-president. After more than a decade in charge, decided run for a majoritary office for the first time.
