The European Young Chemists' Network or EYCN is the younger members division of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) and aims at promoting chemistry among young people and unites young chemists (those under the age of 35) in Europe.
EYCN was founded in 2006. The idea of the European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN) within EuCheMS appeared during several young scientist meetings in Europe. At the brink of the 1st European Chemistry Congress on 31 August 2006 in Budapest (Hungary) a paper was written entitled Aims, Tasks and Goals of EYCN.
In March 2007, Jens Breffke (Germany) and Csaba Janaky (Hungary) invited all societies to send their young representatives to Berlin in order to set the rules of EYCN. Three weeks later the executive committee of EuCheMS confirmed these rules. Meanwhile, EYCN reached out to all young chemists within the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) framework to exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas.
EYCN represents 23 European chemical societies and one affiliated member (the American Chemical Society). Member societies include:
