The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017, commonly known as E3 2017, is the 23rd Electronic Entertainment Expo, during which several hardware manufacturers and software developers and publishers from the video game industry will present new and upcoming products to the attendees, primarily retailers and members of the video game press. The event, organized by the Entertainment Software Association, will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13–15, 2017.
While the event has traditionally been closed only to members of the video game industry and press, E3 2017 will offer 15,000 public passes for the event, to be sold starting in February 2017. The move was broadly supported by publishers and analysts, who see the influence of gamers' own experiences with hands-on demonstration spread through word-of-mouth as valuable as media presentations and interviews.
Electronic Arts, for a second consecutive E3, announced that it will host a separate EA Play event and forgo exposition at the show. The EA Play event will be held just prior to the E3 event from June 10–12, 2017 at the Hollywood Palladium. No press conference has been announced as of yet.
While Microsoft has traditionally held the first press conference on the Monday of the conference, the company will host its 2017 press conference on the Sunday before E3, June 11 at 2:00pm at the Galen Center. According to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, the move was two-fold: first, they wanted to remain the first press conference of E3, placing themselves before Bethesda's conference. Secondly, the Monday of E3 normally include conferences from Sony and others such as Ubisoft; by moving a day ahead, the impact of announcements made during Microsoft's conference would not get lost in the glut of other announcements made that same day. The company has confirmed it will provide more information on the hardware refresh of the Xbox One that is currently under the codename Project Scorpio. Microsoft also plans a separate "Fan Fest" during E3.
