Doraha is a city and a municipal council in Ludhiana district in the state of Punjab, India.
As of 2015-2016[update] India census, Doraha had a population of 39999. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. The main clans that dominate the city are Oberoi's. Doraha has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74% and, female literacy is 66%. In Doraha, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
This city has a great political background. This area has given two Chief Ministers. First was S. Gian Singh Rarewala and the other was S. Beant Singh Ji Kotli. His son S. Tej Parkash Singh Ji M.L.A., Ex-Tpt. Minister Punjab, is looking after the area. S. Mihan Singh Gill was minister in the Govt. of S. Gian Singh Rarawala, S. Harnek Singh Mangewal was chairman of Wear House Corporation Punjab in the S. Beant Singh Govt. and minister of state in the Govt. of S. Harcharan Singh Brar. Mr. Mangewal was more than a friend to S. Beant Singh. S. Bhag Singh M.L.A., Smt. Nirlep Kaur M.L.A., S. Sadhu Singh Ghudani M.L.A., S. Malkit Singh Dakha, Kuldip Singh Mangewal, Former Chairman Verka, all belong to this city. S. Lakhvir Singh Lakha ( Payal ) President Of Youth Congress, Inderpreet Singh Mangewal, Dr. Virender Singh Mangewal are upcoming leaders of the region. Late.S Sardara Singh was also a M.C. of Doraha. He was a very good-natured person. He also developed the area in which he was a M.C. recently.
This city has the foot touch of the 6th Guru of Sikhism Sh. Hargobind Ji. Relating to him here are four places known as: Gurudwara Damdama Sahib, Ber Sahib, Sarai Sahib, and Bauli Sahib.
Doraha is part of the Payal Assembly Constituency.
The Doraha city has many best schools named Dashmesh Model Sen. Sec. School, Guru Nanak model senior school, Mehta gurukul public school, Doraha public school, Mount litera, kidzee & all schools in the area having high-class facilities, good infrastructure, modern standard and reputation in the field of intelligence in studies. There are currently more institutes Doraha Institute of Management and Technology (DIMT), Doraha College of Education (DCE) Doraha has also another college named Guru Nanak National College. It was founded by Dr. Ishwar Singh in 1974. Before this college the boys and girls went to Khanna and Ludhiana for higher education. The college is currently running under the guidance of Principal Dr. Narinder Singh Sidhu. There is a Govt. Senior Secondary School, 2 Govt. Primary Schools and a Municipal Primary School. Except these Govt. schools other private educational institutions are also working which are known as Saraswati Model Senior Secondary School, Aryaputri Pathshalla, Khalsa Girls High School, Shakti Model School etc.
