Door into Darkness was an Italian horror television series conceived by Dario Argento. It consisted of four one-hour episodes and played on the Italian station RAI. The episodes were never dubbed into English, but are available subtitled on a DVD box set.
The Neighbor (original title: Il vicino di casa) tells the story of couple that move into an apartment with their newborn. Unbeknownst to the couple, the neighbor upstairs has a terrible secret. This episode marked the directing debut of Argento's assistant Luigi Cozzi.
The Tram (original title: Il tram) is a mystery centering on the discovery of a dead woman's body in the titular location and a Detective's thought process on how she got there. Argento wrote and directed this episode under the pseudonym Sirio Bernadotte.
Eyewitness (original title: Testimone oculare) centers on a woman who witnesses a shooting. However, when she returns to the scene of the crime, the body is missing and the authorities do not believe her story. This episode was co-written by Argento and Luigi Cozzi. Although Roberto Pariante is credited with the direction, Argento went back and re-shot a significant portion of the episode.
The Doll (original title: La bambola) revolves around a lunatic who was possessed by a girl's ghost. escapes from a mental asylum and begins stalking a young woman. This episode was directed by Mario Foglietti (although Cozzi did some uncredited directing on it).
Door into Darkness was given a limited edition 3,000 DVD release in 2004 by the German-based DVD label Dragon Entertainment. The set features all four episodes in Italian with English subtitles. Extras include video introductions by Cozzi and a 16-page text booklet (in German). The 2-disc set is currently out-of-print. A Region 1 2-disc set was released by Mya in 2009 which included the documentary "Master of Horror" as an extra on the second disc.
