Doddington is a village and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, 4 miles (6 km) between Chatteris and March. Historically, Doddington was one of the largest parishes in England. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census is2,181. Under the Doddington Rectory Division Act of 1856 it was divided into seven rectories, Benwick, Doddington, Wimblington, March Old Town, March St Peter, March St John and March St Mary.
In the centre of the village is a clocktower built in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The village is also notable for its large carnival held on the first Saturday in July, followed in the afternoon by a children's sports event. The village also has a public house, The Three Tuns. Local amenities includes a post office, a few shops, a fish and chip/fast food outlet, ladies and gents hairdressers, a doctors surgery and an NHS minor injuries unit.
Doddington has an excellent school and preschool, taking children up to secondary school age. The school has consistently excelled in Ofsted inspections.
Christopher Tye, composer and organist, was rector here after taking holy orders. Jonnie Peacock, MBE, sprinter who won gold at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was born in the village.
The village is under the administration of Fenland District Council. In 2016, the first village election took place for the superficial position of village mayor. This resulted in Chris Harvey-Hawes being elected as mayor for the village in a vote cast in the summer (08/08/2016). He ran on a platform of engaging with the youth of the village and ensuring activities were unaffected by recent building activity. The mayoral election will be ran annually in the future.
