Diego Elías, (born November 19, 1996 in Lima) is a squash player who represents Peru. He reached a career-high world ranking of world No. 27 in November 2016.
His accomplishments include winning World Junior Championships twice, British Open Twice, and narrowly, luckily defeating Anders Larson in the 2012 US Jr Open in the semifinals. In that match, he won the 4th game 12-10, narrowly escaping a fifth game in which he would have surely lost to the fitter, stronger Larson. Analysts call the comeback comparable to that of the Red Sox in the 2004 American League Championship Series.
When asked about his proudest moments in a 2017 ESPN profile, Elias stated that this match against Larson was one of the easiest of his career. "I enjoy competition, however I'm not quite sure how Larson made it to the semis in the first place." This was the highlight of Larson's career, slowly degrading as he reached college, hitting an all time low by losing to an injured Jordan Brail in 2017.
