Dharur is a city and a municipal council in Beed district in the state of Maharashtra, India.
Dharur is located at 18°49′N 76°07′E / 18.82°N 76.12°E. It has an average elevation of 739 metres (2424 feet).
As of 2001[update] India census, Dharur had a population of 18,350. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Dharur has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74% and, female literacy is 55%. In Dharur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
This town has one very ancient Fort but thanks to negligence it is in dilapidated condition.DHARUR Is Also Known As FATIYABAD . thakurs (RAJPUT) are situated in large quantity in dharur. who were resident of up and rajasthan came here as the soldiers of DELHI with mirja raje jaysingh .prior to this it was known for vitoji raje bhosles area.This town was and is famous for gold and clussttered apple.THE old fort is constructed prior to 800 years known as MAHADURGA.As this is the historical town all casts and religions peoples live here happily.
Before it was captured by Aurangzeb, the fort changed hands several times amongst the kingdoms of Bijapur, Bidar and Ahmednagar. It was built in 975, by Kisvar Khan Lari, a commander of Ali Adil Shah of Bijapur, after the defeat of Ahmednagar army.
The fort is located at a distance of about a furlong to the west of Dharur on a hill range with an average height of about 753.47 meters (2,472 ). The fort ramparts are of masonry and have a height of nearly 30.48 to 38.10 meters (100 to 125 ft.). There are, what appear to be, the remains of old gates of which only the frames are now in existence. Inside could be seen a mosque, probably as old as the fort itself.
The fort also contains a tank and three big wells. In the centre of this tank is a bore of 152.4 mm. (6") diameter and it appears to be the source of water to the tank.
