Deshler is a city in Thayer County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 747 at the 2010 census.

Deshler was established in 1887 when the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad was extended to that point. It was named for John G. Deshler, the original owner of the town site.

Deshler is located at 40°8′25″N 97°43′25″W / 40.14028°N 97.72361°W / 40.14028; -97.72361 (40.140406, -97.723542).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.51 square miles (1.32 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 747 people, 322 households, and 200 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,464.7 inhabitants per square mile (565.5/km2). There were 392 housing units at an average density of 768.6 per square mile (296.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.3% White, 0.4% Native American, and 0.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.

There were 322 households of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.8% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.9% were non-families. 36.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.88.
