Defence is a neighbourhood located within the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area. The neighbourhood is divided into five parts and straddles the Islamabad Capital Territory-Punjab provincial border. The neighbourhood was primarily established for military personnel in 1992 by the Armed Forces of Pakistan Welfare Department.
Defence is headed by a serving brigadier of the Pakistan Army under the Welfare and Rehabilitation Directorate.
Defence I is located in Islamabad south east of Morgah and , Rawalpindi. This subdivision on its southwest abuts Soan River. It is linked to the city through GT Road and Jhelum Road. It covers an area of 11000 Kanals (5.56 Sq. km) providing 3,100 residential plots. A larger area acquired by Defense Housing Authority just southwest of Phase I is named Phase I Extension and covers a total of 16,750 Kanals (8.47 sq. km). It is located at the south end of Rawalpindi city near Askari XIV Housing Society. Its perimeter extending as far as Dhagal village on Adyala Road of Rawalpindi District and Rawalpindi Central Jail. The extension is to be completed in two parts.
Located in Zone V of Islamabad near the Kahuta Triangle, with GT Road on its south end and Islamabad Highway on its North. The project was commenced in February 1994. It stretches across 15,060 Canals (7.61 Sq. km). Over 90% of the developmental projects are complete and over 500 plots are under construction. Phase II Extension launched in March 2005 is a project that was to cover 5,5000 kanals (27.81 Sq. km). It lies in Islamabad Capital Territory. Phase II Extension is divided into A, B, C and D sectors. Phase II has the benefit of easy connectivity to both Islamabad and Rawalpindi since it is nested between Islamabad expressway and Rawalpindi. This phase is completely in Islamabad Territory as compared to Phase I which is completely in Rawalpindi. Google map clearly shows the location of DHA-II within Islamabad Territory.
