The Croxley Rail Link is a railway engineering project in the Watford and Three Rivers districts of Hertfordshire, England. The project aims to focus both urban lines serving Watford, the London Overground and the London Underground Metropolitan line, into one terminal station from the current two, giving greater interchange choice for passengers. The Metropolitan line Watford tube terminal station will close down leaving Watford Junction as the sole terminal. The Metropolitan line will extend from Croxley tube station to Watford Junction via a reopened section of disused line. On the reopened line two new stations will be built.
The engineering works consist of the resuse of the alignment of the disused Watford and Rickmansworth Railway between Croxley Green and Watford High Street. On this alignment the two new stations will be built with the construction of a viaduct over the Grand Union Canal, River Gade and A412 road. The new line will leave Croxley Green station and branch into the London Overground line before Watford High Street stations before continuing to Watford Junction.
The main proponent of the scheme is Hertfordshire County Council, with the support of Transport for London (TfL) which owns the Watford branch. The proposed route was featured in a Transport for London network map for 2016 and the Transport for London Indicative 2025 Transport Map on which Watford tube station does not appear. When the link is built, direct services between Watford Junction and Amersham would also be possible, but these are not included in the business case for the scheme.
