Craig Allen Johnson (born January 16, 1961) is an New York Times Bestselling author. He lives on a ranch he built himself in Ucross, Wyoming (population 25, near Buffalo, Wyoming. As of May 2017, Johnson has written 12 novels, 2 novellas and a collection of short stories featuring Sheriff Walt Longmire of Absaroka County, Wyoming. The novels were adapted by Warner Horizon for a television series that was the highest-rated debut on that channel. Entering into its sixth season, Longmire is now on Netflix.

The author's 12 Sheriff Walt Longmire novels to date include The Cold Dish (first in the series), Death Without Company (The Wyoming Wyoming Historical Association Book of the Year), Kindness Goes Unpunished, Another Man's Moccasins (Western Writers of America Book of the Year) and The Dark Horse (which received starred reviews from Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly, and was named one of Publishers Weekly's best books of the year), Junkyard Dogs, Hell is Empty (library Journal Best Mystery of the Year), As the Crow Flies, A Serpent's Tooth, Any Other Name, Dry Bones, An Obvious Fact with the upcoming The Western Star (to be released September 5th, 2017). Johnson's first novella The Spirit of Steamboat was named as the first One Book Wyoming and his second, The Highwayman, was released earlier this year. He has also released a collection of short stories, Wait For Signs.

Johnson's Longmire novels have been translated into fourteen languages and have won numerous awards including the Nouvel Observateur Prix du Roman Noir and the SNCF Mystery of the Year.

The Branded Short Film, My Perfect Journey/Craig Johnson, relating the writers trip into the mountains on horseback directed by Belle Montecelli won the Tumi/Tribeca Film Festival Nineteen Degrees Competition.

The former A&E TV series Longmire (now on Netflix), based on Johnson's novels, premiered on June 3, 2012 with cast members, Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Adam Bartley, A. Martinez, Zahn McClarnon and John Bishop.Longmire debuted as A&E's #1 original-series premiere of all time with 4.1 million total viewers. All existing episodes (including those originally made for A&E) are now available to view on Netflix; season 4, 5 and 6 were made for Netflix after A&E had cancelled the series.Longmire is filmed in New Mexico. The sixth and final season will air in 2017 on Netflix.
