Common commercial policy

The common commercial policy is described as "one of the main pillars of the European Union's relations with the rest of the world".

Trade outside the EU is an area of exclusive Community responsibility under the Treaty for a Constitution of Europe and complements the European Union Customs Union. This means that the European Union negotiates on behalf of its member states. The common commercial policy is the responsibility of the European Commissioner for Trade.
