Coleman is a city in Midland County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,243 at the 2010 census.
Coleman began with the building of a sawmill here in 1870. The following year a station of the Pere Marquette Railroad was opened. It was incorporated as a village in 1887 and as a city in 1905.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.27 square miles (3.29 km2), of which 1.26 square miles (3.26 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,243 people, 533 households, and 327 families residing in the city. The population density was 986.5 inhabitants per square mile (380.9/km2). There were 640 housing units at an average density of 507.9 per square mile (196.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.1% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.1% of the population.
There were 533 households of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.7% were married couples living together, 14.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.6% were non-families. 33.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.99.
