Chrome orange is a range of orange pigments, which consists of lead(II) chromate and lead(II) oxide. Its composition is Pb2CrO5.
Chrome orange can be made by treating lead(II) salts with an alkaline solution of chromate in a basic solution. It can also be produced by treating chrome yellow (PbCrO4) with strongly basic solution.
It was used in the past as a pigment in paints.
