Chippewa Valley Schools is a school district with its headquarters located in Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan. The Chippewa Valley School district covers 28 square miles serving in the Clinton and Macomb Townships. It is the eighth largest school district out of 788 public and charter schools in Michigan and the second largest school district in Macomb County. Chippewa Valley school district teaches 16,300 students each day. Those students attend school at twelve Elementary, four Middle, two ninth grade centers, three High Schools, one International Academy of Macomb (IAM) High School, and one preschool center.
1.3 million miles are covered by Chippewa Valley School district buses transporting students to and from school using 153,000 gallons of diesel fuel. 10,500 students ride a bus each day to get to school. 835,200 school meals are served each year during morning breakfast and lunch meals to the students, including reduced priced lunches for students who are in need of it. Chippewa Valley School is one of Macomb County's largest employers, providing jobs for 1,800 teachers, janitors, and administration.
Dakota High School is a public high school located in the Metropolitan Detroit region, situated in the suburb of Macomb Township, Michigan. The school opened in 1995 as the second high school in Chippewa Valley Schools. An overflow of ninth graders formed the need of a new Ninth Grade Center. However, as that building could not be built before the start of the 2007-2008 school year, Dakota ninth graders utilized a finished wing of the, at the time, brand new Seneca Middle School. Recently, the Ninth Grade Center has been opened and in use since the 2008-2009 school year.
Mohegan High School is an alternative high school where students achieve the same goals as regular high school, but with different hours, rules, methods, atmosphere and approaches.
The International Academy of Macomb (IAM), is located in the same region as this district and is an offspring of the International Academy of Bloomfield. Both schools are International Baccalaureate schools and offer honors courses in grades 9 and 10 and IB courses in Junior and Senior year. While this school is not directly a part of the Chippewa Valley District, it is located on the campus of Chippewa Valley High School and accepts a large percentage of their students from the Chippewa District.
