Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT; Chinese: 朝陽科技大學) is a university in Wufeng District, Taichung, Taiwan. Founded in 1994. Originally named Chaoyang Institute of Technology. In 1997, CYUT was designated by the Ministry of Education as a University of Technology, the highest level in the technological and vocational education system within the R.O.C.
Currently, the University comprises 5 colleges and 22 departments, which offer 22 master's programs and 5 doctoral programs. The number of students currently enrollment is around 18,000, and the faculty and staff is about 1,000 in total. CYUT’s excellent teachers and facilities have been readily receiving recognition. With its goal of becoming a large type of institution of higher learning.
Chaoyang University of Technology was founded in 1994 through the generosity of Dr. Tien-sheng Yang, the President of the Ever Fortune Group, a major R.O.C.'s conglomerate, in memory of his parents, and in return for the support he received throughout the years from the people and communities of central Taiwan. In 1988, chose a site in Wufeng Township of Taichung County (now part of Taichung City), and after six years of preparation, on April 14, 1994, it received permission from the Ministry of Education to begin accepting students as Chaoyang Institute of Technology.
In its first year, Chaoyang Institute of Technology had eight departments and over 900 students. on August 1, 1997, Chaoyang Institute of Technology was designated by the Ministry of Education as a University of Technology, the school name was officially changed to Chaoyang University of Technology, was Taiwan's first private University of Technology.
In addition to its new designation, Chaoyang University of Technology has continued to expand, and today five colleges, twenty-two graduate schools, including five doctoral programs, twenty-two master's degree programs and twenty-two departments, as well as its Evening Division, General Education Center, Continuing Education Center, Office of Research and Development, Business Incubation Center, and College of Enterprise Innovation.
On Christmas Eve, the campus is filled with festive atmosphere. In order to enhance harmony on campus and bring all the festive joy of Christmas, the school sponsors the Inter-Departmental Choir Contest every December. Each year, enthusiastic students participate in the competition. The contest is not only competitive but also awarded handsomely with high prize money. It is obvious that our school takes this competition very seriously.
