Cathy Chartrand is a Canadian-born women’s ice hockey player. Currently with the CWHL’s Canadiennes de Montreal, Chartrand became the league’s all-time leading scorer among defenders on January 9, 2017.

Representing her home province of Quebec, Chartrand participated in women’s ice hockey at the 1999 Canada Winter Games, emerging with a silver medal. She has also competed at the Esso Women’s Nationals on five separate occasions, winning the gold medal in 2002. Other podium finishes at the Esso Women’s Nationals included a silver in 2001 and a pair of bronze medals in 2003 and 2005.

At the 2004 World Inline Hockey Championships, Chartrand was a member of the Canadian contingent that captured a gold medal.

Chartrand competed with Canada’s Under-22 national wmoen’s ice hockey team starting in 2000. She played with the team in a gold medal effort at the Three Nations Cup in November, 2000 in Zuchwil, Switzerland. She would also win a gold medal with the U-22 team at the 2003 European Air Canada Cup in Germany.

With the Canadian national women’s ice hockey team, Chartrand appeared in the 2002 and 2006 Four Nations Cup, capturing the gold medal on each occasion.

Joining the McGill Martlets hockey program in the autumn of 2007, Chartrand would capture a CIS national women’s ice hockey championship in the spring of 2008, garnering tournament MVP honors. During the 2009-10 season, Chartrand was named Martlets’ team captain.

Chartrand played with the Montreal Wingstar, and later renamed Montreal Axion in the original NWHL, from 1999 to 2007. During the 2005-06 season, Chartrand captured a league championship with the Wingstar.

From 2014-16, Chartrand served as captain for Montreal’s entry in the CWHL. In a game against the Boston Blades on January 9, 2017, Chartrand picked up a pair of assists to surpass Annie Guay as the CWHL’s all-time leading scorer for defenders. Guay held the previous record with 96 career points. During the 2016-17 CWHL season, Chartrand had a four-game scoring streak from October 16 to November 12, 2016.
