Catholic Biblical Association

The Catholic Biblical Association of America (CBA) is a society of biblical scholars. It was founded in 1936, and publishes the Catholic Biblical Quarterly. The current President is Barbara E. Reid.

In 2012, the USCCB "announced a plan to revise the New Testament of the New American Bible Revised Edition so a single version can be used for individual prayer, catechesis and liturgy." The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) approved the initiation of a revision of the New American Bible New Testament (NAB NT) and entrusted the work to the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD). After they developed a plan and budget for the revision project, work began in 2013 with the creation of an editorial board made up of five people from the Catholic Biblical Association (CBA). The first work of the editorial board was a document detailing the “process and principles” of the revision, which has been approved by the USCCB. In Fall of 2014, additional members were recruited to the revision team, and they were assigned to five teams covering five sections of the New Testament – Matthew & Mark; Luke & Acts; Johannine corpus; Pauline corpus; and the Catholic Epistles). The revision is underway now in early 2015. After the necessary approvals from the Bishops and the Vatican, there will be one single translation in use for the Liturgy, for study, and for catechism. The work is expected to be done around the year 2025.
