Casual Dining Group (CDG) operates over 300 restaurants in the UK, located from Aberdeen to Plymouth. CDG operates restaurants primarily under the Bella Italia, Café Rouge and Las Iguanas names. It also operates sites under the Belgo, Huxleys, La Tasca, Oriel Grande Brasserie and La Salle brands.

The business, and its restaurant brands, have operated under several different owners. Some of the company’s restaurant estate operated as part of Tragus Group, before becoming part of Casual Dining Group in July 2014.

Following the creation of CDG, the company has embarked on an investment programme. In July 2015, CDG acquired Las Iguanas and later went on to purchase La Tasca. Shortly before these purchases, the group sold Strada to Sun Capital Partners.

The group has established an international operation with a number of franchise partners in the Middle East, and more than 50 restaurants are set to open under such partnerships.

The company is backed by a consortium of investors, including funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management (LLC) and York Capital.

CDG has focused on developing its corporate social responsibility practices. To drive down its carbon footprint and energy consumption, CDG has partnered with Carbon Statement. This move saw a 17% reduction in its energy consumption from 2012 to 2016.

In 2016 CDG brands Bella Italia and Café Rouge were rated at the top of a national survey grading the sustainability of seafood served in leading mid-market restaurants. Café Rouge achieved a 3.5 (out of 5) blue-fish score and Bella Italia achieved a 3.0 blue-fish rating.

CDG has a company-wide partnership with the Prince’s Trust charity. The Prince’s Trust offers apprenticeships to anyone over the age of 16 who isn’t in full time education; CDG offers ongoing support by opening up apprenticeships to these young people. Representatives from each brand attend ‘Get Hired’ days to find passionate and driven young people for their workforce.

CDG has announced its plans to source 100% free range eggs by 2025 across all brands. In partnership with Compassion in World Farming, CDG will transition the remainder of eggs used as ingredients to free range systems, and aims to achieve this well ahead of the 2025 target.
