Carter High is a 2015 American sports film directed and written by Arthur Muhammad. The film is centered on the 1988 Cowboys of David W. Carter High School in Dallas, and is produced by Dallas Cowboys footballer Greg Ellis.
Film starts with the court sentencing of the crimes of various Carter High football team. After following a tie we learn about each of the players background. With one student being transferred teacher due to an incomplete grade that could cause ineligibility to stay on the football team. In 1988, the Carter High football team was in a public scandal while in the midst of a run in the Texas state playoffs, which included a semifinal showdown with Odessa's Permian High that would become a central event in Friday Night Lights.
