Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the county had a population of 9,295. Its county seat is Carrollton. The county was organized on January 2, 1833 from part of Ray County, Missouri and named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 701 square miles (1,820 km2), of which 695 square miles (1,800 km2) is land and 6.8 square miles (18 km2) (1.0%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 10,285 people, 4,169 households, and 2,880 families residing in the county. The population density was 15 people per square mile (6/km²). There were 4,897 housing units at an average density of 7 per square mile (3/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.95% White, 1.72% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Approximately 0.71% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 32.7% were of German, 25.3% American, 11.8% English and 9.2% Irish ancestry.
