Candice Kumai


Candice Kumai is an American author and chef. Kumai is based in New York City.

Candice Kumai, quoted by ELLE magazine as, "the golden girl of wellness" is a 5x best-selling author, wellness journalist and chef. Candice is a regular contributor to E! News, The Dr. Oz Show and NBC’s Today. A professionally trained chef Candice has appeared as a regular judge on Iron Chef America and Beat Bobby Flay. She contributes regularly to health and lifestyle publications such as ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Shape, Yoga Journal, Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, The Wall Street Journal, and Well + Good.

Candice was born in California to a Japanese mother and Polish-American father. Kumai worked as a model when she was a teenager. Later, she trained as a professional chef in Southern California, cooking on the line at several restaurants.

Kumai was the youngest chef competing on the first season of Top Chef. Candice has dedicated much of her time to philanthropic work in her community. She works in collaboration with The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), The Resolution Project, The Japan Society, Wellness in The Schools (WITS), Health Corps, The US Japan Council, The Chef’s Garden, and The James Beard Foundation. She serves as a mentor at Health Corps and The Resolution Project.

As an invited speaker, Candice has spread her message of wellness in collaboration with global brands and institutions including Whole Foods, Reebok, the NBA, The New York Times, Pure Yoga, SoHo House, The Bar Method, Lululemon, Yale University, University of San Diego, ABC Home, NYC Slow Food, and The Natural Gourmet Institute.

Her approach to cooking is based on her Japanese American heritage. Kumai became the host for Lifetime's show, Cook Yourself Thin.

Kumai has been involved in 1,000 Days, which is an initiative started by Hillary Clinton in 2010 to improve nutrition for mothers and children worldwide. In 2014, she became a Kirin brand ambassador.

Her series of books, in the Clean Green series have made the bestseller list of the New York Times. Kumai is also a contributing editor to Shape Magazine.
