Camillo Mariani

Camillo Mariani (1565–1611) was an Italian sculptor of the early Baroque.

Born in Vicenza, Italy, he apprenticed in the studio of the prominent Venetian Mannerist sculptor Alessandro Vittoria. He helped complete the stucco decoration for Villa Cornaro in the Veneto.

In 1597, he moved to Rome. His first works in Rome were stucco statuary for the churches of San Bernardo alle Terme (1600) and of the Gesù. Emblematic of his emotional depictions is his Saint Catherine of Alexandria. One of his apprentices, Francesco Mochi, took over his studio upon his death. He was buried in the church of Santa Susanna in Rome.
