The Cadillac CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) is a full-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac, first introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and first sold in the US for the 2016 model year. It is the first car under Cadillac's president (Johan De Nysschen) leadership to adopt Cadillac's revised naming strategy, as well as the first rear-wheel drive full-size Cadillac sedan since the Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996. It is built on a different platform than the smaller CTS and is engineered as a rear-wheel drive vehicle with optional all-wheel drive. In addition to its primary markets of North America and China, the CT6 is also offered in Europe, Korea, Japan, Israel and the Middle East.
The Omega-platform Cadillac CT6, which surpasses the length and width of the large Cadillac XTS, uses a mix of steel and aluminum to keep the large full size sedan weight much lower than anything else in its class. As a result, the vehicle weighs less than the smaller Cadillac CTS that slots below the larger Cadillac XTS but above the compact Cadillac ATS.
The CT6 does not replace the front-wheel drive XTS, which is shorter by 2.0 in (51 mm) and 10.7 in (272 mm) in exterior and wheelbase length respectively, as well as 1.1 in (28 mm) in width and 15.3 cu ft (433 l) in interior space. The CT6 was intended to serve as Cadillac's temporary flagship model until the larger, more luxurious CT8 sedan was brought to fruition. However, in April 2016, Cadillac reportedly canceled the CT8 project due to a market shift to luxury SUV models, although this has not been officially confirmed yet. The CT6 rivals models such as the Lincoln Continental, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Lexus LS as far as size, but with a lower starting price.
