Brigid Keenan


Brigid Ann Keenan (born 1939) is an author and journalist. She was born in Ambala, India. Her father was an officer in the British Indian Army during the Raj. Her father retired from the Indian Army after India's independence in 1947, and the family moved to Britain. She was sent to convent schools in England.

Keenan has worked as an editor on Nova magazine, The Observer and The Sunday Times. On marriage to a diplomat she re-orientated her career into writing books and, whilst travelling the world with her husband, has published two fashion histories as well as Travels in Kashmir (1989), Damascus: Hidden Treasures of the Old City (2001), and the best selling Diplomatic Baggage (2005). Keenan has lived and travelled in many countries in the Arab world and in Asia.

She is a founding board member of the Palestine Festival of Literature.

She is married to Alan Waddams, a retired diplomat for the European Union, with whom she has two children, Hester Waddams (Dawes) and Claudia Waddams (Rees). She has four grandchildren.
