Braindance is a NYC-based progressive darkwave musical group. Formed in 1992 by electric guitarist - record producer, Vora Vor, and drummer Rob Notoris as a progressive rock band, the group added vocalist Sebastian Elliott later that year. Bassist Eiki Matsumoto and keyboardist Robyn Naylor filled out the lineup (1993–1996). Matsumoto left the project to be replaced by former Ion Vein bassist, Andrew Bunk (1996). Notoris, Naylor, and Bunk departed the band to pursue other projects (1997–1999), although Bunk later returned to record on Master Of Disguise. In 2014, Braindance released Master Of Disguise, its fourth official full-length recording project.
TSO bassist David Z, Matisyahu drummer Jonah David, and singer-songwriter Becca Schack joined the group for live performances (2003–2005). Schack stayed on, joined by Natalia Eth to add background vocals for Master Of Disguise. Trey Gunn Band and League of Crafty Guitar Players member, Tony Geballe added additional electric guitar and saz parts.
Braindance plays what is described as progressive darkwave, combining the elements of goth, industrial, electronic, synthpop and darkwave with progressive metal, progressive trance, vocal house, and modern classical music. Braindance has become one of the most distinctive voices in the underground, known for their pop sensibilities combined with technical and formal complexity.
