Blue Dream, also known as Blueberry Haze, is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain of Cannabis.
Blue Dream is a cross between the Blueberry and Haze strains, and was created around 2003 in Santa Cruz, California. Its more remote ancestry includes Afghani, Thai, and Mexican strains. It is a clone-only strain propagated by cuttings, and is known for producing large harvests, as much as seven ounces per plant. Widely used for medical purposes, as of 2014 samples were testing at up to 25% THC and 2% CBD content. Blue Dream is high in terpenes as well, particularly alpha-Pinene, which is a bronchodilator and an antibiotic.
The Cannabible described the effects of Blue Dream as "clear and cerebral in nature, above average in strength", while The Cannabist reported that it stimulated runner's high and that the flavor was "off the charts".The Oregonian referred to it as "the lunch-pail strain of the cannabis world. It's well balanced, easy to get, and just about everybody likes it." It was the most popular strain in Portland, Oregon in 2014, and in both Washington and Colorado in 2015.Leafly declared it the "fastest-trending strain" in the United States in 2016, ranking first in nine states. This popularity has drawn criticism, with High Times writing that Blue Dream is "typically so mass-produced that it suffers in quality and also has the distinction of becoming so ubiquitous and familiar." It was one of the strains selected by comedian Tommy Chong for his line of designer marijuana products. During 2016, $49 million worth of Blue Dream was sold in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Colorado.
Blue Dream cannabis should not be confused with a variety of petunias also referred to as "Blue Dream".
