Mescalero is a census-designated place (CDP) in Otero County, New Mexico, United States, located on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. The population was 1,338 at the 2010 census. The settlement was originally called Blazer's Mill, the location of a famous gunfight during the Lincoln County War.

Mescalero is located at 33°9′27″N 105°46′50″W / 33.15750°N 105.78056°W / 33.15750; -105.78056 (33.157440, -105.780482).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.9 square miles (46 km2).17.9 square miles (46.3 km²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,338 people, 404 households, and 283 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 68.9 people per square mile (26.6/km²). There were 373 housing units at an average density of 20.9 per square mile (8.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 4.06% White, 0.16% African American, 90.59% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 2.27% from other races, and 2.76% from two or more races.
