Birmingham is a city in Van Buren County, Iowa, United States. The population was 448 at the 2010 census.
Birmingham was laid out in 1839. The town was incorporated on May 20, 1856.
Birmingham is located at 40°52'43" North, 91°56'48" West (40.878626, -91.946610).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.06 square miles (2.75 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 448 people, 191 households, and 120 families residing in the city. The population density was 422.6 inhabitants per square mile (163.2/km2). There were 213 housing units at an average density of 200.9 per square mile (77.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.8% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the population.
There were 191 households of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.2% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.86.
