Bikita is a district in the Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe. It is located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) east of Masvingo. Its name probably is derived from a mountain in the Bikita Mamutse Area called Bikita Mt. Speculative lies propounded it came from the Shona word Dikita which means antbear, which describes the shape of a nearby hill. The district used to be known as Denga which means up in the clouds and has moved several times to different locations. The surrounding area is mined for lithium. The reputed to have the largest reserve of petalite in the world. The district is historically known to have produced academic stars, termed as 'Kuvaridzi vefundo' by many in Zimbabwe.

Bikita district is widely known as the first district to be civilized in Zimbabwe following its semi-arid climate. It is home to the delicious and nutritious wild insects called Hararurwa by the local natives. It is believed that young kids from this district spend much of their time and childhood in schools hence the educational culture is too serious for an african society. There are famous schools like, Mashoko Mission, Mukanga, Chiremwaremwa, Marirangwe, Chada, Negovano, Chivaka, Mandadzaka, Gangare, Chitsanga, Chisungo, and Makondo. SInce 2009, local research showed that 70% of the youth were embracing technology more seriously unlike other communities.

Examples of high profile people from Bikita include the late Dr Ottilia Chareka, Prof Dr B. Mafuvadze, Dr Matekwe (Veterinary Surgeon, Business Strategy, Aquaculture Specialist) Gabriel Mharadze Machinga (former minister of sports of culture in Zimbabwe, ambassador of Zimbabwe to Britain for 10 years), Prof Mafongoya (Agriculture), Prof Gundidza (medical), Prof Rukuni (Claude Maredza( CA, Writer), and Dr Kerereke (former advisor to Governor RBZ).

Bikita District is the third-driest district in Masvingo after Chivi and Chiredzi and is perennially-plagued by food shortages induced by low rains.

The district with annually harangued by livestock diseases like anthrax and foot and mouth. On occasion these maladies even affect the populace, with a number of people dying. Sometimes there are even outbreaks of cholera. Bikita district is defined by the presence of stinkbugs, called in vernicular harurwa. These insects are a delicacy to the locals and exotic. The Harurwa insects are sacred and have their origin to the death of Meso Mana( Claude Maredza` book Harurwa) a guy who had four eyes.
