Vemulawada Bheemakavi was a Telugu poet who lived in the 11th century, or between 12th-13th centuries as per The Indian Antiquary journal of 1902. He was born in Vemulawada town (presently in Karapa mandal),East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh) located east of Rajamahendravaram, south-west of Kakinada and close to the natural drain Tulyabhaga or Jamadagni. Vemulawada is situated north-west of the temple town of Dakshramam (located 1.4 kms north of the Godavari River). The region was ruled then by Telugu speaking Eastern Chalukyas. He was associated with various rulers of the Vengi and Kalinga dynasties. Bheemakavi was associated with Bheemeswara Temple at Daksharamam per the inscriptions. He considered himself to be the son of Lord Bheemeswara.

He lived after Nannayya Bhatta and prior to Tikkanna. He composed many poetic works in Chaatuvu style. He is also known for his work Kavijanasrayam, a prosody which he dedicated to Rechanna, a vaisya.

There is presently another Vemulawada (originally known as Lembulawada, misinterpreted as Vemulawada) in Karimnagar (ruled then by Kannada speaking Westen Chalukyas) which is the location of Rajeswara temple. Some regional organizations claimed that the poet belonged to Lembulawada. Lack of resource locators prior to the advent of internet and rise of regional political movements in 20th century have caused many other poets (such as Rechanna, also mentioned in The Indian Antiquary journal of 1902, etc) originally associated with Vemulawada in East Godavari district to be attributed to other such places.

In several occasions, Telugu 'Pa' becomes 'Ha' in Kannada, as Palakuriki becomes Halakuriki and Telugu 'Va' becomes 'Ba' in Kannada, as Vengi becomes Bengi. Lembulawada cannot become Lemulawada or Vemulawada as La does not become Va in Kannada.
