Berthold Hochschild


Berthold Hochschild (March 1860 – January 25, 1928) was a mining magnate, a founder of the American Metal Company, and a philanthropist. He was born in Dieblis-on-the-Rhine, Germany, and came to the United States in 1885, founding American Metal with Jacob Longeloth two years later. His estate was valued at $6.7 million. He had two sons, Harold K. Hochschild and Walter Hochschild, and a daughter, Gertrude Hochschild. Harold founded the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, New York and Walter Hochschild built Adirondack Great Camp Eagle Nest camp on Eagle Lake in 1938.
