Benkelman is a city in, and the county seat of, Dundy County,Nebraska, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 953.

Benkelman was originally called Collinsville, in honor of Moses Collins, and under that name was founded circa 1880. In 1882, it was renamed Benkelman by the railroad for J. G. Benkelman, a stock raiser.

Benkelman is located at 40°3′2″N 101°32′1″W / 40.05056°N 101.53361°W / 40.05056; -101.53361 (40.050615, -101.533660). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 953 people, 445 households, and 242 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,191.3 inhabitants per square mile (460.0/km2). There were 556 housing units at an average density of 695.0 per square mile (268.3/km2).
