Baxter is a city within Jasper County, Iowa, United States. Baxter is 33 miles northeast of Des Moines. The population was 1,101 at the 2010 census.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races.
