In the year 1298, Zafar Khan together with Ulugh Khan managed to halt the advance of invading Mongols. Khan's army defeated the Mongol army near the city of Jalandhar, bypassing Lahore. The Mongol armies suffered casualties of, as its recorded, about 20,000 slaughtered, and hundreds other were taken captive including their commander. This victory secured Alauddin Khilji's throne.
