Basera E Tabassum ("BeT") is a shelter started in 2002 for girls who lost their parents as a result of the armed conflict or terrorism during the ongoing Kashmir conflict. BeT is a project started by Borderless World Foundation.
At the time, there were no shelter homes for girls in this area. BeT is the first project launched in the Kupwara district, the district which is badly hit by militancy.
BeT was founded in 2002 by Bharti Mamani, Tanveer Mir, Bipin Takwale, Zahoor Sheikh and Adhik Kadam in the Kupwara district. The mission of BeT is "To provide a secure home to the girls in the armed conflict"
As of 2016, there are over 5 BeT Homes across the Jammu and Kashmir State.
Bet works mainly with the girls child who is unable to live normal and secure life due to loss of parents in the militancy. BeT is providing shelter homes to the girls and taking care of their Health, Education, Mental Health, Higher Education. More than 200 girls are living throughout the 5 homes which are located in Kupwara district, Anantnag district, Budgam district, Srinagar district & Jammu district. BeT is supported by Asha for Education,National Securities Depository Limited, HDFC Bank, GTL Ltd. Bet organize national level education exposure tours for better understanding of various culture and educational methods. Bet also provide various tranings and workshops to the girls. Local Schools helps BeT girls with admissions and regular classes. Colleages and Kashmri University students also join block field work course under their under grade programs. Students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Nirmala Niketan, University of Pune, University of Delhi send their students for field work as per the need of their Master degree in Social Work. Under Education Exposure Tours, children visits cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Nasik, Kolhapur, Chennai, Hyderabad. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Motiwala Education and Welfare Trust.
