Bangor is a city in Van Buren County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,885 at the 2010 census. The city is located in the northeast corner of Bangor Township, but is politically independent.
It was first organized as a town in 1854.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.90 square miles (4.92 km2), of which 1.83 square miles (4.74 km2) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,885 people, 707 households, and 464 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,030.1 inhabitants per square mile (397.7/km2). There were 835 housing units at an average density of 456.3 per square mile (176.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 72.9% White, 11.8% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 8.6% from other races, and 5.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.4% of the population.
There were 707 households of which 39.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% were married couples living together, 21.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.4% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.23.
