Baby Islam (born as Anwarul Islam: 24 September 1927 in Murshidabad, Bengal, British India – 24 May 2010) was an Indian and Bangladeshi cinematographer and film director.
Anwarul Islam was born to Abdul Hossain Biswas and Motaharun Nessa, although he was bought up by his grandfather and his mother, who was a teacher. He went to a missionary school in Sealdah and moved to Cathedral Mission High School. He matriculated in 1945 before attending Bangabasi College, under the University of Calcutta.
He started his career with Bengali Film Director, Ajoy Kar. After Independence he moved to East Pakistan and started working there. He was the cinematographer of hit films such as Harano Sur, Bor Didi, Saptapadi, Saat Paake Bandha, Kabuliwala. He also worked with filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak on two films, Titash Ekti Nadir Naam and Jukti Takko Aar Gappo.
