Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na is a Hindi TV serial that airs on Sony TV, which enhances the basic idea of how a daughter fulfills her responsibilities towards her parents end once she gets married.
The story is based on the life of a 24-year-old woman, Aastha, who faces a conflict that every middle-class girl goes through: marriage. She works in a five-star hotel and, being the second eldest of her siblings, she is prepared to be the first one to be married. Her marriage is fixed and the whole family is celebrating when she realizes that her elder brother on whom her parents are depending for everything has his own plans. He feels least responsible for shouldering the parents' responsibilities and has planned to move to America. The other sister, on whom she was pinning her hopes, has her own plans, too. She, against her parents' wishes wants to become an actress and leaves the house. The youngest sibling is handicapped and she herself is a dependent.
Seeing the circumstances in her house, Aastha decides not to get married. But fate seems to have another plan. The owner of the hotel, her boss, Shubh Ranawat falls madly in love with her and comes straight to her father with a proposal. Her father is overwhelmed with this proposal, and besides that Shubh promises Aastha that he will allow her to look after her parents, as they will be his parents, too. Based on this assurance and Shubh’s genuine love for her, she agrees to marry him.
As she becomes the mistress of the hotel and a palatial bungalow, a barrage of problems befall her. Her own family falls apart and she wants to be with them and support them. On the other hand, her in-laws', where she has to play the duty of a daughter-in-law is very demanding. The act of balancing between the two and the conflict between her duties as a daughter-in-law and daughter forms the crux of the show.
But there's a twist when Aastha is kidnapped and her look-alike, Payal arrives. Payal destroys the relationship between Aastha and Shubh just to get her own back at Swayam (Shubh's brother), who she fell in love with. Payal gets married to Swayam by making everyone think she was Aastha. Swayam didn't know who Aastha was in the first place, so he thought Aastha was Payal when he first saw her. Later Payal pretends to like Shubh just to create war between Shubh and Swayam.
However, Swayam faces an unpleasant death: Payal stabs Swayam because he was getting in the way of her plans. Later on, when Payal was about to re-marry Shubh, the kidnapper reveals everything and brings the real Aastha to Shubh. He thinks it's some kind of trick that the kidnapper wants to pull on him. After a few minutes of talking they have a big argument, while Shubh tries to take the gun out of the kidnapper's hands, Shubh pulls the trigger towards Aastha thinking she is a fake. There is a gunshot.
