Dr. Asif Nazrul (born 12 January 1966) is a Bangladeshi researcher, columnist and civil society activist. He is currently a professor of law at the University of Dhaka.

Asif Nazrul completed his PhD from SOAS, University of London in 1999, and post doctoral fellowship later from Environmental Law Center, Bonn, Germany. He also worked as a commonwealth fellow at the School of oriental and African Studies in 2007.

Asif Nazrul is a constitutional expert and television personality. He has extensive experience as a consultant with UNDP, ADB and other international organization on human rights, rule of law and environmental issues.

He is also a newspaper columnist for Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Before joining Dhaka University in 1991, he used to work at Bichitra, a well-reputed newsweekly of that time. He also worked as a government officer (Magistrate) for a few months. He is now well known as a political commentator and thus has been interviewed by a host of national and international media including the BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera.

He was a well-known novelist in the early 1990s. His published book include 9 novels and 4 non-fictions.

In December 2013 Asif Nazrul married Shila Ahmed, the daughter of writer Humayun Ahmed. His former wife was actress Rokeya Prachy and the marriage lasted for a few years.

Asif received a telephoned death threat in May, 2013, which was thought to relate to his criticisms of the government.

Asif Nazrul is an Executive Bureau member of the South Asians for Human Rights, a regional human rights organization. He is also involved with other national and international organizations.
