On December 14, 2017, he announced he would be ceding the post to his son Arthur Gregg "A.G." Sulzberger, effective January 1, 2018.
Sulzberger was born in Mount Kisco, New York, one of two children of Barbara Winslow (née Grant) and Arthur Ochs "Punch" Sulzberger Sr., the grandson of Arthur Hays Sulzberger, and the great-grandson of Adolph Ochs. His sister is Karen Alen Sulzberger who is married to author Eric Lax.
