Area code 775

Area code 775 is a Nevada telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan. It was split from area code 702 on December 12, 1998, and covers the entire state except for Clark County (Las Vegas) which retained area codes 702 and 725. Major cities in the 775 area include Reno, Carson City and Elko. It is one of the largest area codes that does not cover an entire state.

Prior to the creation of 775, area code 702 had served all of Nevada for 51 years. Nevada's dramatic growth in telephone service in part due to the proliferation of cell phones, pagers, and fax machines, particularly in Reno and Carson City, required the expansion of the number pool for Nevada.

While it appears to be rural, more than 80 percent of its numbers are located in Reno and Carson City. 775 is expected to stay in its current configuration until early 2043. Despite the rapid growth of Reno and Carson City, it is nowhere near exhausting.
