Appleton City is a city in St. Clair County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,127 at the 2010 census.
Appleton City was originally called Arlington, and under the latter name was platted in 1870. The present name is after the D. Appleton & Company, who helped build the town a library in exchange for the naming rights. A post office called Appleton City has been in operation since 1871.
The Hudson City School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
