American Society for Horticultural Science


Founded in 1903, the American Society for Horticultural Science in Alexandria, Virginia is "the largest, most visible organization dedicated to advancing all facets of horticultural research, education, and application."

Its purpose is to promote the science of Horticulture.

In 1961, it had 2,226 active members (holding a degree and engaged in research), 42 Emeritus members and 90 Sustaining members (corporations or companies interested in horticultural research).

It produces a semi-annual publication and held annual meetings.

It awards the Vaughn Award (named after Leonard H Vaughn, President of a seed company and former school board president,) for outstanding contributions to horticulture.
