The Alfa Romeo Stelvio (Tipo 949) is an upcoming compact luxury crossover SUV to be manufactured by Alfa Romeo. It is expected to enter production at FCA's Cassino Plant in late 2016, with sales to start in early 2017. Its name is derived from the famed Stelvio Pass, a curvaceous mountain pass in northern Italy. The Stelvio was unveiled at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Stelvio will compete in same category as Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
Presaged by the Kamal concept car in 2003, the Stelvio is Alfa Romeo's first production SUV, however Alfa Romeo made its first off-roader Matta in 1950s. It uses a modified version of the Giorgio platform shared with the Giulia, and will be available in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. The car's engine lineup will likely be similar to that of the Giulia's, consisting of a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four and a 2.2-litre diesel inline-four. A performance-oriented Quadrifoglio variant will be offered as well, powered by the Giulia Quadrifoglio's 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 rated with 503 horsepower. A six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic may be used. In January 18 Alfa Romeo Stelvio First Edition came possible to order in EMEA region.
